Volume Swelling

Volume swelling is a musical crescendo (a gradual increase in volume of a musical passage). It is mainly used with electric guitar. This effect is also called as violining as it produces same sound as that of violin.

It is used by guitarist Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malssteen, Slash and band like Radiohead and many more. This technique is heart of neo classical shredding (Yngwie Malssteen thing)

It is achieved by picking a note with volume near to zero and wrapping pinky around the volume knob and gradually rolling it to increase volume. It can alternately done by using volume pedal also.

When delay unit is used with pedal it produces a thicker sound as that of cello.

One palace to hear it is intro part of Where I end and you begin by Radiohead.Enjoy :)
